Admission into PhD, MPhil and MSc Programmes in Water Resources, Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre, at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana
The Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre, Kumasi (RWESCK) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi Ghana, seeks to build high quality human resource capacity in Ghana and the sub-regional to meet the needed critical mass of human resources required to address the development challenges highlighted in the Africa Water Vision for 2025 and Post MDG Sustainable Development Goals.
PhD Programme Fellowships
RWESCK Graduate Research Programme is pleased to announce that,partially-funded (partial tuition, stipend and research grants) scholarships are availablefor 20 applicants from Ghana and all the West African Countries to pursue 4 years full time study in the following specialisation:
- PhD in Water Resources Engineering and Management
- PhD in Water Supply and Treatment Technology
- PhD in Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management
Females are encouraged to apply to take 40% enrolment allotted to females and those with good academic records will be considered for full scholarship. Applicants from West Africa are encouraged to apply to take 30% enrolment allotted to non-Ghanaians.
Details of PhD Fellowship
- Fund to pay part of the fees (tuition and bench fees) to the university
- Monthly stipend for a maximum period of 36 months during programme
- Research and travel grant for student’sPhD Research field work
Entry Requirements
In conformity with the entry requirement of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the successful candidate will have a minimum of:
- First and Second Class (Upper Division) in their first degree.
- Good Master’sdegree in Water and Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering option), Civil Engineering (Water Resources/Hydrology option), Geomatic Engineering, Natural Resources, Mathematics, Geography, Chemical Engineeringand other relevant disciplines, with an average of at least 60%.Submit academic transcripts.
- Candidates from non-Anglophone countries must have an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language (TOEFL or British Council, IELTS) with above average score.
- Age Limit: 40years or less.
- Candidates with one publication in a journal as first author have an advantage.
- Evidence of current and previous employments.
Masters Programme (MSc/MPhil) Fellowships
RWESCK Graduate Programme is pleased to announce that, partially-funded (partial tuition and research grants) scholarships are available for 40 applicants from Ghana and all the West African Countries to pursue 18 months full-time MSc programme or 24 months MPhil in the following specialisations:
- MSc in Water Resources Engineering and Management
- MSc in Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation
- MPhil in Water Resources Engineering and Management
- MPhil in Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management
Details of MSc/MPhil Fellowship
- Fund to pay part of the fees (tuition and bench fees) to the university (partial fund for ONLY academically outstanding applicants),
- Research grant for student MSc/MPhil Thesis field work,

PhD and MPhil candidates are to submit soft and hard copies of a letter of motivation (max. two pages) with the heading outlining why you want to study, what makes you well-suited to study in your chosen specialisation,current occupation, how the Programme will fit into your professional vision, how your home country stands to benefit after your training.
- Short concept note (three pages). PhD and MPhil candidates are to submit both soft and hard copies of a short concept note (max. 3 pages outlining the justification, objectives, methodology and expected outcomes of a research idea.

- The deadline for receiving completed application forms and all necessary documents at the Graduate School is Friday April 29, 2016.

KNUST will short list candidates for a selection interview in Kumasi OR via telephone. The date of the interview will be communicated after short listing.
